Activision tasted mammoth success with the Infinity Ward developed game Call of Duty Modern Warfare. The game witnessed huge sales around the globe and the latest iteration released in 2012 sold for over a whopping 500 million dollars. Trade reports suggested it broke records set by flamboyant movie franchises like Lord of the Rings Trilogy and the Harry Potter series.
Talks were on to make a movie based on Modern Warfare storyline but Activision CEO Bobby Kotick denied that no such project is going to take place. One important fact that he stated is that most movies that were inspired by games were box office disasters.
“These movies hardly stay loyal to the script done by original game developers. They often disappoint ardent fans of the series thus tainting the video game brand image as well. We received plenty of offers from various production houses but we don’t have any such COD movies confirmed as of now,” said Kotick.
Films like Tomb Raider, Doom, Resident Evil, Tekken, Max Payne and many more were released by Hollywood but with little success. Director Uwe Bowell has been titled the worst director of all because of his bad iterations of Postal, Far Cry and Blood Rayne.
Will we see Captain Price in silver screen soon? It’s Activision’s call of duty!
